Of Cats and Angels tells the story of an English couple and their three beautiful Birman cats. The narrator is Mr d'Arcy, the male Birman cat, who tells the story in his own words. He describes his feelings at the changes in the family's life when they move house in England and then relocate to America, and the wildlife that they encounter in both countries. The book is a love story because Mr d'Arcy simply adores his owner, Susie. It is also a spiritual story because of certain experiences related in the book. Susie Jackson Batty found herself keeping a daily diary when she had to deal with breast cancer and reconstruction. Once she had started she found it very therapeutic to offload her thoughts and feelings, and hopes and fears into The Diary. As time went on and she recorded all the changes that were taking place in her life, she wondered if The Diary could be of help and a comfort to others touched by the illness, and so she continued to keep it until the right time came for her to stop. It is a very uplifting story told with great honesty, many tears and lots of humour, and will fascinate anyone who reads it.
